“Brasserie Montmartre”

24” x 36” acrylic/mixed media on canvas, framed

$800

Brasserie Montmartre was more than a restaurant - it was a downtown Portland icon. Located on a quiet block on SW Park Avenue, it originally opened in 1978. It served French cuisine with a playful twist: paper tablecloths and crayons for guests to draw on. Crayon art lined the walls, and occasionally drawing competitions added to the charm. The restaurant had many lives, closing and reopening a number of times over the years, until it eventually closed for good in 2015. One of its incarnations was as a late-night jazz bar with a cool chill vibe. For us, it was a favorite brunch spot to take my mom who loved going there with her granddaughter. This piece is a tribute to that memory.

This is a mixed media work: melted Crayola crayons layered over acrylic medium, with textured canvas elements for depth. Painting is encased in a custom black wood frame.

This painting is currently on display at RETREAT Beauty Lounge and is available for purchase.
